Wrong, SS's key is in its AoE damage, casted on a lone sin/war, it's a waste of time. But VoR is different, it deals(for my build) 85 damage everything they cast a skill, mind you, a SKILL. So it deals 85 damage no matter what skill they use and I usually combine that with [Empathy]. I don't know this for sure but 85% of the assassins that tried to spike/gank my mesmer in AB doesn't care what hexes you put on them, so they just keep on spiking.
Then the the damage VoR+Empathy deals is as follows:
[Visions of regret]: 85 dmg(per skill)
[Empathy]: 52 dmg(per attack)
assuming an assassin have 600 health(most have around 500ish) and has a 5 attacking chain(5 skills that make up the chain) then:
137 damage per chain X 5 = 685 damage total.
I'm not gonna go into details here but with my build I can keep up once with a sin spike/gank so usually it comes down to my having ~100 hp and the sin dead(or backed away). Close, but I'm still the winner.

Wrong. I run a blood "spike" build in AB all the time and can kill basically anything in a matter of 5-8 seconds depending on the HCT activation on my spells. Yes there are counters to this (as there are for ALL spikes), and I try to remember who those opponents are and not waste my time on them when I see them again.
And for those of you saying that it can't be a spike when only one person is doing it, I counter with this: What is the purpose of a team spike? To kill your opponent quickly. Why wouldn't killing someone on your own in 5 seconds count as a spike?

Whilst a little duoubtful on this, I'm not going to argue.
I personally find the problem with the blood spells to be less on the casting time (which isn't brilliant), but on the recharge times and irritating energy costs.

The problem with blood spike is that it can only do ONE thing, so that limits the ways it can be used but it doesn't mean it always suck.
